Intensive In-Community (IIC) mental health rehabilitative services are intensive community based, family centered, mental health services delivered by clinicians licensed by the state of New Jersey. Our clinicians are trained in a variety of areas including but not limited to individual and family therapy to address issues surrounding oppositional defiance, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety disorder, depression, and parent-child conflict. Services are delivered as a defined set of interventions and within the context of an approved service plan written by a clinically licensed practitioner. These services target the children’s behavioral and emotional needs and are provided in the child’s home and/or community.
Behavioral Assistance Services
These services are delivered by a bachelor’s degree level direct service provider to help decrease risky behaviors. The Behavioral Assistant (BA) provides services in the child’s home or community and is working under the direct supervision of a licensed therapist. The behavioral assistance services build on the child and family’s strengths while focusing on behavioral modification and developing better coping skills.
Biopsychosocial Strengths & Needs Assessments
Biopsychosocial Strength & Needs Assessments are evaluations completed by one of our clinically licensed clinicians. The BPS Assessment is a comprehensive clinical assessment geared to identify both child and family’s strengths and needs pertaining to behavioral health, substance use, and intellectual/developmental disabilities for the purpose of developing treatment goals.
Children do not just grow out of behavioral difficulty and self-regulation issues on their own. Children also do not come with instruction manuals! Parents should seek professional help early for best outcomes. We are fortunate to have many highly trained clinicians who can help in this regard. Untreated, or even under-treated, early childhood behavioral disorders put children at known risk for the development of other adjustment difficulties – academically, socially, vocationally, and interpersonally – later. POSS clinicians work with parents to develop routines, insist on boundaries, rules, and expectations within the home setting. Our clinicians also realize the importance of self-care as parenting can become overwhelming.
Though mentoring is non-therapeutic in its nature and scope, it has many benefits in guiding children by providing positive adult models. The primary goal in any mentoring relationship is to support the youth in goals and aspirations, as well as being an advocate, while supporting the values of the parent or guardian. At POSS, our mentors are experienced professionals who empower teens and young adults to work on their daily lives as they evolve into productive members of their community.
